Course Description and Background

This course covers the economics and management of journalism and journalistic products. In particular, we will look into the following topics:

Oct. 20, '17 (mandatory kick-off), Dec. 15,'17, Jan. 19 and Jan. 26 (both '18) -- plus voluntary field trip: 3-4 days in the week of Mar. 05-09, '18.

Mandatory Pre-Assignment
The Pre-Assignment and all details will be eMailed to students registered for the course on OUR MTM website and by signed application form (see below) on Oct. 02, '17. The Pre-Assignment is due on Oct. 10, '17, 11:00 am via eMail from your sMail account. All other details to follow on Oct. 02, '17.

 

Field Trip
The course closes with a 3-4 day field trip in March '18. We will visit a number of leading media companies based in NRW and Hamburg (possibly DuMont Mediengruppe, FUNKE Mediengruppe, Gruner+Jahr, Der SPIEGEL, Google, Axel Springer). The trip might incur costs of approximately 250€ per student (likely less) for travel and accommodation. All students of the seminar are encouraged/expected to participate in all parts of the field trip, but it does not count into grading!

A successful registration requires

(1) an MTM-Master-Account,

(2) online registration here for the course, and

(3) a signed application form in our mailbox, Pohligstr.1, 50969 Cologne.

Registration is binding (last chance to withdraw is on Oct. 05 '17, 6:00 pm. Participation is limited - we will forward the participant list to the WiSo-PA considering the registration sequence and perhaps waiting list for final admission. Later registration will NOT be possible.
